Oh my gosh, there are 15 of these? Okay. So, good to focus on Jane's humanity (and her/others' doubt about its existence) via zooming in on her adopted niece and nephew. But... so many names, and so much old timeline. Things got a little muddy. If we lean into the "hard scrabble squad of cops who solve crimes in the supernatural community even if it's career poison" I'm very here for that.

Nothing incredible but a solid vampire/shifter paranormal urban crime drama

I'm much more into Jane after this second book. Looking forward to continuing the series.

Second book with Jane Yellowrock. I'm learning more about her and her history while she's learning too. I found some moments slower moving, but they are great to have as background for her character.

I will say it was neat to see how everything came together for the end. There were several things happening in the vampire community that Jane discovers are connected. It's a great world for conspiracy and hidden secrets with the loooong, secret lives lived. Jane finds a way to be at the center of all the action.

Oh Jane. She's not one to be diplomatic. lol. She has a problem with words at times, which is her lack of people skills. And it's beautiful. lol. She does stir things up and keep them interesting with this boldness she has. And she sure gets into a lot of tight spots as well. I did fear for her a few times in this book.

I've been enjoying the narrator too. She's really good at voicing all the characters and I really enjoy her voice for Angie baby.

This book takes a turn that I was afraid it would. But to see Angie Baby starting to come into her powers, oh yes. I look forward to seeing more from her as she grows up. I really hope we get to see it in this long series.

I'll be continuing with the series. It gives me my action and mystery of troubles and murder. And in a great world of magic and vampires and more.

As with skinwalker I had a bit of a hard time getting into it but about halfway through I didn't want to put it down. It is a pretty dense read for urban fantasy as I can usually fly through them. Looking forward to reading the next one when it comes in at the library.
