Every bit as good and as readable as Kitchen Confidential. No doubt about it, this guy can write.

each adventure puts you smack in the middle of whatever is going on, and throws in the menu of the day, night, trip, situation, again whatever......

very enjoyable read.

A delicious and entertaining world buffet. Even when Bourdain goes on rants that I profoundly disagree with (ie, smoking or vegetarianism), he does so with such a sympathetic sincerity I'm charmed anyway.

Interesting to think about how much our enjoyment of travel and food is based on the preconceived notions and build up beforehand, based on secondhand accounts or some idealized, distanced version -- and whether the experience in that fleeting moment blows those expectations away, for better or worse.
