This book just felt so lackluster. Then after getting through the entire book and taking time to get invested in what is going on and who the characters are the end wraps up in less than a page, which at that point I was already skim reading because it just wasn't holding my attention. There are characters flaws with the main character that I don't agree with and I don't know if I will be continuing this series even though I thoroughly enjoyed the first few. If she stuck with simply the forensic murder mystery side these books would be great it is all the other stuff that drags the book down.
Whew! I was so tense reading that book from all of the suspense. It was as if it was happening to me and I couldn't make it stop. I enjoyed this book as the other ones.
This really wasn't as good as I remembered. Yet again Kay is the only one who can stop the bad guy.
This series is such a roller coaster ride of quality, and I really did not like this one. Most of this book is an exploration of morality with little meaningful crime solving. Marino, who is an uncomfortable dude with some stereotypical quirks in the earlier books, is cast as an absolute jerk in this novel for the sole purpose of exploring the rejection of rampant sexism and homophobia I’m not sure Marino actually displays in earlier books. He always gave off “awkward but well-intentioned macho guy” vibes in previous novels. Throughout this degradation of Marino’s character, we also see Kay pursue an affair with her married-sometimes-partner-boss-FBI-guy, so I’m not sure Kay is really the best person to explore issues of morality and equality here. I found the serial killer, Temple Gault, to be underwhelming and predictable, and I was entirely disappointed in his sudden downfall. This series is likely going to turn out to be another overdone set of crime novels where readers can feel the decline in attention to detail as the author meets deadlines for multi-book deals. I’ll finish the series, but I’m already losing steam.

Did not particularly enjoy this one. The ending was a bit underwhelming. Particularly after the build up about the monster, the ending did not feel like it had done justice to the build up.
Back when I read this in 2006, I found it very compelling...but I've since lost interest in Patricia Cornwell.
Solid and entertaining mystery. One thing I would point out with the seriousness of this particular novel, is Scarpetta's inability to enjoy life at times. Interestingly though, the connection of food to her father always helps her to enjoy a meal.
