Well, it appears that I was right to put this one off for as long as I did because I had similar problems with this book as I did with the previous one in the series. The 1st being the title AGAIN is misleading - Potter's Field is mentioned and makes an appearance at the very end of the book. It doesn't play an integral role in the story at all - so why is it the title of this book? There was definitely less personal drama with Kay's dating life which I appreciated, but again the pacing just felt off. I was very invested in the Gault storyline, but it took entirely too long to get the answers you want as a reader. Overall, pretty mid 🤷🏼‍♀️

in which dr. scarpetta and team finally apprehend the serial killer they've been after the last two books, while trying to discover the identity of his latest victim, killed in central park on christmas eve.

audiobook narrator note: for some reason this one was narrated by donada peters instead of the amazing c.j. critt and it was ridonkulous. peters sounded like an elderly british granny instead of a middle aged badass forensic pathologist from miami. bad choice.

I’m reading through this series because I bought a bunch at a thrift store years ago and I’m reading my way through my bookshelf.. I really enjoy the suspense and the plots of the books, but I swear sometimes Kay is so smart and other times she’s denser than lead. Some of the things she’s able to deduce from simple clues seems brilliant, and other times it seems like she can barely comprehend things a 5 year old child would be able to understand.
I will keep plowing my way through these books on my shelves but if this doesn’t improve it might be a real struggle.

It was okay, really. It doesn't age well with the technology and overly-detailed information about the subway system. Marino really highlights how mores have changed. Would I perceive the book differently had I read it 28 years ago?
