I know I should probably have read Caliban and the Witch: Women, the Body and Primitive Accumulation first, but this just fell into my hands and filled me validation for the burning and angry rage I have inside my chest. Read this book. Read this book and live, dig you hands into the land, get into crafts and arts and trades, get closer with your female friends. All of these, you'll learn, are anti-patriarchy and anti-capitalism acts.

Free yourself and live. God, just live for the women who were killed for all of us to be here today.

I'm familiar with Caliban and the Witch but didn't realize that this book is by the same author. She says that her goal with this was to transform an academic text into something more palatable for the public. I appreciated greatly that she expanded beyond Salem and England into what is still going on today in different parts of Africa. Federici also discusses the implications of the historical happenings as well as the colonization that simultaneously happened.

Definitely a great, short read. She succeeded in her goal.

Mega interessant boek, soort instap-model voor ander werk van Federici zoals Caliban and the Witch. In deze serie essays legt Federici het verband tussen de opkomst van het kapitalisme en de heksenjachten van vroeger (en nu!), en relateert deze aan geweld tegen vrouwen.

“Another source of witchcraft accusations is the increasingly mysterious character of economic transactions and people’s consequent inability to understand the forces that govern their lives.”
