What a delightful book! I always enjoy unusual historical fiction and this one was so unique. The story is darkly comic and filled with fantastic illustrations, which I believe were also by the author. Apparently there's not a lot known about Madame Tussaud's life so Edward Carey took a lot of artistic liberty with her story and I am completely fine with that. It looks pretty long, but don't let that deter you - as I mentioned, there are a lot of illustrations, but it also has very short chapters and it just goes very quickly. Plus it's just so good you won't want to put it down for long.

I knew better than to pick up historical fiction, which is absolutely not my genre, but it was a hand-me-down from a friend so I gave it a shot.
Also, Carey's writing style just isn't for me.
