Victoria Schwab is a truly fascinating author. She masterfully blends the supernatural, fantasy, magic, and horror, creating stories that pull you in—just like this one, where the protagonist is drawn to the "Veil," the space between life, death, and whatever comes after. Set in one of my favourite cities, Edinburgh, the book may be aimed at younger readers, but it easily appeals to all ages. Though it features ghosts and eerie moments, the tone is more atmospheric than frightening. As always, Schwab’s writing is lyrical, immersive, and full of mood. I thoroughly enjoyed this read.

I loved this! It was a really creepy, fun read. It was also kind of refreshing to read a book that didn't have a romance but rather a really great, though unconventional, friendship. I'm sure the series will evolve, and each book will have more depth as we explore the ghost world with Cassidy and Jacob. My only wish is that this book was longer! Still, I would highly recommend this!
