Eleanor and I both really liked this one - a fun little story about the unicorn of the sea, who wouldn't love it?

Clever, cute, creative, and fun! Highly recommend.

I'd heard a lot of good things about this series, and it seems really cute, so I was surprised I didn't like it more.

Oh, Narwhal, Unicorn of the Sea! you are such a silly but joyous and fun book! I didn't intend to buy this book, but one of my students saw it and acted so crushed when he found out I hadn't ordered it, I added it to my Amazon cart for my next order!

This is a short graphic novel, perfect for younger readers, but equally lovable for older children, and (obviously) adults, too. Happy, fun-loving, and optimistic Narwhal befriends cautious, reserved Jellyfish, and this first book in their series lets the reader see how they end up being perfect friends for one another. As I read in another review, this book earns a "5" not because it is brilliant literature, but because it is just the right book for those times when you need a quick pick-me-up! I'm glad Tony pushed me to purchase it!

Ahoy there mateys! I be the first to admit that I am not really a graphic novel or comics person. While I like art, I do not have a visual mind at all. For example, me film friends laugh good-naturedly at me all the time when when I watch tv or movies with them because I miss the visual cues of storytelling. This means the tv or movie must be paused so the can explain the plot points I literally didn’t see. I need words! Dialogue! Something! But the First Mate and I had donated books to a local library sale and had time to kill. So of course we chose to remain at the library while time went by. The most avaliable place to sit ended up being next to the juvenile graphic novel section. I had heard good things about this series and saw it so naturally I picked it up. I have to admit that while cute, I was underwhelmed by this. There was barely any real storytelling. I thought it would be one story overall but instead there were basically vigenettes. Me favourite part ended up being the animal facts section. I did think the waffles were silly. Arrrr!

Listen, I’m 33 and this book was just what I needed. It put a big smile on my face and I can’t wait to tell some friends to read it to brighten their days.

This was a fun book, although I read the sequel shortly after and I didn't write this review fast enough to remember the details. But I gave it four stars, so I must have enjoyed it. Sorry I can't tell you exactly why. Super cute illustrations, obs.

Congrats on the Eisner Award 2017 win!

This could easily be a book read over and over for a kid. Great page quality and just overall adorable.

I know how popular this series is but it's taken me forever to put forward the effort to actually pick up the book and it did not disappoint. I see why kids love these so much. I would definitely recommend this for kids K-2 who are an interested in graphic novels.

Narwhal: Unicorn of the Sea is the first in the Narwhal and Jelly series and introduces readers to main characters Narwhal and Jelly who meet in the sea. The two have a hilarious first meet up and seemingly build a relationship through their shared love of waffles. I appreciated that we were introduced to other sea characters throughout the story as well. The art was simplistic, but also warm and charming. As an avid comic, graphic novel, and manga reader, I'll always support creators who create works that introduce younger audiences to these beautiful mediums. This made me laugh at loud and now, even as an adult, I'm looking forward to the next installments in the series. I definitely recommend this one if you're look for more children's graphic novels.
