The first book of this series was so much better. Not only in the writing, plot, and characters, but the ending was pleasing and compelled me to want to read this next book. For a cozy mystery, this one was just dumb and the culprits in the end didn't justify this long convoluted story that mostly focused on the love lives of our private detectives.
To paint the student as the "aggressor" is beyond sickening as if the adult teacher not only has power over this student but isn't also the adult in the situation and needs to put a stop to that. To cry to Sandra and Maya as if she was the victim. Ugh.
Society needs to get it together, especially these authors if we keep giving passes to female teachers being predators and sexual groomers of students and that male students should want this. The whole affair was met with such blasé that it soured my reading.
Also, why oh, why is Maya running back to her corrupt, asshole of a husband. FOR LOVE?! All the respect for this woman vanished and is an easy out for her. This same husband ruined her police career and was doing some shady ass shit, but she just loves him and will wait for him. Give me a break. I won't be reading the next as the characters are just evolving into ridiculous silly women tropes.

Also a bit concerning that Maya AND Sandra weren't as proactive in reporting the inappropriate teacher-student sexual relationship, but were feeling sympathetic (?!) Very confused since Sandra has two teenage-aged sons that go to that same high school. To paint the student as the "aggressor" is beyond sickening as if the adult teacher not only has power over this student but isn't also the adult in the situation and needs to put a stop to that.
