While not my favorite book by him (but let’s be real, nothing could pass The Book Thief) I still really enjoyed this. It did take a while to get into, but I think reading in large chunks on plane rides cross country helped. I was able to read for hours at a time and really get into it.

I wish I loved this book, but it and I never quite connected in a meaningful way.

I think people are too busy comparing this book to the Book Thief to appreciate what it is.

It is so beautifully written, at times almost poetic, but also the use of repetition and imagery is done so well. There were many times that I cried, feeling the emotions of the character. At other times I was a bit lost and the scenes felt devoid of the same level of writing. It particularly seemed as of the boys were just fighting for no reason - I don't know, maybe that's what they do? I did feel that, while the symbology of the bridge is relevant and interesting, I did question how a man and his son were building what sounded like a pretty intricate bridge. But I also don't know much about bridges.

Hermoso. El mejor libro que leo hace un tiempo un poco largo. Me hizo acordar tantas veces a la relación que yo tengo con mi hermano que me dieron ganas de regalarle una copia también a él. Muy recomendable.
