FIVE stars are not enough for this book!
It's been ages since the last time I cried this much reading a book!
Crying every chapter became NORMAL after I read the first hundred pages! (since I read on the bus on my way to work, I am pretty sure whoever was sitting near me thought I was crazy!! I literary was trying not to cry every sentence! )
This book is brilliant! the feelings that it left within me are indescribable!
and I still feel like crying! The book made me think of a lot of things that happen daily in our lives but we choose to think of them as trivial things. however, if we take a moment and think, we will see how much they have effects on our lives. people hurt each other, Intentionally or not, it hurts them the same!
Honestly, I can't see myself comparing this book with anything else! this is how much power the book has!
I saw people in their reviews here saying that the book should be a must-read for all the people I couldn't agree more!
black lives matter!
sadly we are in 2021 and still need to say this for people to wake up! people should have already acted upon this sentence as a normal thing not still reminding them of it!
In the book, the way she called the killer cop "one fifteen" emphasizing the gravity of the whole situation, it gives us the reader- a reminder of who did what and what we are reading again!
I will just say this:
IF YOU SEE THIS GO AND READ THE BOOK!

I read this book because I was doing The Reading Rush and I needed a prompt that was for both a movie I had seen but a book I hadn’t read, as well as a genre I wanted to read more of (African American authors).
The movie was very eye opening, and the book, even more so. It is so important now more than ever to read these voices and learn more from a different view. This book was hard at times, but it was also lovely.

I've heard only great things about this book, and all of them are true. The Hate U Give was in every way gripping and hard-to-hear as it was inspiring and heartfelt. Thomas isn't trying at anything--isn't trying to be hip, or relatable, or even woke. Her words are genuine with characters you know in real life and tragedies that are sadly too close to home.

just as much heartbreaking as it is entertaining, i am glad i read this book. it dealt with serious topics in a very approachable way, so no matter who you are, you'll be able to get something out of it.
i don't know what it's like to be Black, i don't know what it's like to experience racism so violently, but after reading this, i feel like i understand a little bit more.

Such a powerful lens into the experience of black communities in a time of increasing gun violence and cultural, socio-economic ostracism. The young-adult perspective makes this story relatable for all ages.
