I was so set to absolutely love this book because I love me some queer sports romance! While there parts that I found really fun and enjoyed there were other parts that just made me grimace. Some of the stuff Casey said just made me think he'd be an HR nightmare. Maybe it's just "locker room talk" (I say that with so many quotes) but regardless I just found some of his comments weird (like commenting on a teammates genitals before you even really know them is just Big Yikes).
I know Rachel Reid writes a lot of hockey romance so I'd be willing to give her another try but from this book alone I'm not completely hooked.

"I thought goalies saw everything. I'm fucking bananas about you, Stacks."
I got this book as an ARC months ago and forgot to read it, sorry. But I'm glad I finally did!!
This book was cute! I really enjoy the romance between these two characters. Coming off of reading a high stakes fantasy, I think this book was cozy and exactly what I wanted from a book right now. Got to love a mood lonely character falls for the literal ball of sunshine character. That trope never misses. I'll eat it up everytime.
This book has, what I would consider, some solid demisexual representation. It's definitely not stated out right but it's there and I liked that. Feels nice to be seen sometimes. I did also enjoy that Landon's sexuality didn't need to be specifically labeled for it for be valid. It was a nice touch.
I think my only issue with this, and why it's not a 5 star for me, is the beginning is a bit hard to get into. Give it about 100 pages and you'll be set. But that's also like... 1/3 of the book at that point? That's like when people say "oh just watch season 1&2 and then the show gets good!!!". I shouldn't have to wait through all that just for it to get good, you know. I digress.
I think there should be more gay hockey works out there personally. Hockey is undeniably my favorite sport (besides Ice Skating!) So I really like reading books/romances about it. I have consumed all the gay ones I know of; I'll have to start reading the straight ones eventually. Lord help me. Maybe one day I'll write the next big gay hockey romance and feed my fellow soldiers. Until then? Who knows.

Tropes/Themes:
-MM contemporary romance
-Holiday (Christmas)
-Sports (professional hockey)
-Opposites attract
-Friends/teammates to lovers
-Neurodivergent rep
-Demisexual & bisexual rep
-Low angst
-Dual POV
-Standalone
CWs for loss of a loved one, grief, fear of being alone
I enjoyed this for the most part, but this book had no business being soooo long. I enjoyed the characters and thought the romance itself was sweet (albeit more YA/NA vibes), but it seriously could have been like 100 pages shorter. Also, this felt like a Christmas-adjacent book. I genuinely forgot this was a holiday romance.
