I enjoyed the development in this book and the nuggets from Liveships. Another great instalment.

Banger. Just like the second of the Farseer trilogy, this book is almost entirely within Buckkeep, and so damn good.
I wish Fitz would stop being such a wiener and kill his enemies more often, brother needs an ego pickup, he was literally an assassin and now is just a depressed servant who gets shit on by everyone, then rebuked by everyone for being bummed about it.

Much of this book feels like filler for the overarching plot of the Realm of the Elderlings. In truth, not many major events or excursions even take place. But despite all this, so much actually transpires between the characters and politics of the realm it still makes itself a great read!

6/5 stars. This book is fantastic. Arguably the best in the series (but I say that about every book and robin hobb just keeps outdoing herself)
the relationship between the Fool and Fitz is so beautifully written. Their fight scene after Jek shows up is truly a masterclass in character writing.
I love Hap and Dutiful and Kettricken. The scene where Kettricken calls him a brother made me cry it was so perfect.

I have complicated feelings about Chade. On the one hand he does love Fitz but also he just keeps using him over and over again without really considering what it does to him each time.
