this one slipped back into “slice of life in and around Buckkeep” much like the original trilogy. mostly, I was ok with it because I really enjoy our characters, but it kinda took a turn for the worst after the quarrel between Fitz and the Fool. they are the dynamic I really care for here (and fitz needs to grow up and move past himself ). the piebald plot felt a little rushed, I wish it had been hinted a bit more through the book. definitely a middle book slump here but i’m hoping all the setup pays off in the next one! dutiful’s coterie, elliana + the outlanders (they’re plotting something!), the pale lady, fool’s fate (robin hobb I swear to god)
also the chapter of all the bingtown characters was so fun!! felt like the avengers showing up. I do wish I didn’t spoilamber/ the fool for myself but alas it’s been nice to see the easter eggs for that

I read this and the last book so close together that I can't fully differentiate one from the other. But. But. It doesn't matter. Both were awesome.
I love single-POV fantasy. I didn't realize how much I was missing it in the Liveship trilogy until I just feel so much more sucked into this one because there's no jumping around from one person (or one location) to another. I think Hobb is now officially my favourite fantasy author?
Beloved !!!!
