A genuinely enjoyable read, female author and main character which is great. Fantastic if you want something intriguing and historical, but without too much backstory to remember. This was my first book getting back into regular reading, and I'm glad I chose it.
I will note it is fairly heteronormative.

I think this is my favorite book this year. I really enjoyed the  way the two stories intertwined.

Story 1: a woman who runs an apothecary after her mom passes and uses it to kill men who behave badly.  1700s (Nellie)

Story 2: a woman who just found out her husband was having an affair prior to their 10 year anniversary trip and decides to go to London alone.

Nellie ends up killing her boyfriend after she finds out her caused her and his wife to miscarriage and that he had a wife. The miscarriage left her infertility . She took on a mission to help over women kill men who behaved badly. You meet Eliza (12 yrs old) who was sent my her mistress to gather the poison from Nellie to kill her husband.  Eliza does just that and they murder the husband, who may or may not have taken advantage of Eliza  after drugging her.

Eliza gets her period right as the mister passes and she thinks his ghost is haunting her. She goes back to see Nellie to help rid her of her ghost.

Then, another wealthy woman comes and wants to kill her husband’s mistress, who happens to be her cousin. She at first declines but the wealthy women threatens to tell the police if she doesn’t help. Welp, wealthy woman killed her husband by accident. Mistress most of realized it was poisoned and the gave it to him.

The police realize it was he was poisoned and go after Nellie. She and Eliza run to escape. Eliza has a potion to turn back time. She jumps off the bridge to escape the police, Nellie convinced it’s certain death.

She then doesn’t end up jumping as she doesn’t want Eliza to die in vain.

She decides to tell Eliza’s mistress about her death and makes her way toward their home upon arriving she finds Eliza there, but Nellie can’t quite understand.

Main Character #2 finds herself on the trip to London. Her husband decides to visit her without her consent. He ends up intentionally positioning himself to try and win  her back, but she ends up getting accused of trying to kill him. She ends up leaving him and staying in London to continue to pursue her education and the story of the lost apothecary.

I didn’t like the ending as much when they tried to have MC wrap it up in a nice bow. It felt forced.

This book was almost infuriatingly bad. The premise was SO cool but the characters were ridiculously flat. So many cooler ways this could have gone but as it is I just didn’t care.
