Body and cosmic horror smorgasbord. Totally disgusting and beautiful in equal parts. Not perfect and definitely not for everyone, but perfect for me. I look forward to Snyder's future writings.

It started out SO STRONG. But it got too weird, almost to the point of absurd silliness, toward the end. Pandemic horror is a new genre, but I'm here for it. The writing was excellent, but I wish we had heard more from Erin.

I enjoyed most of this. The first half, certainly. But I feel that once
the pandemic became the apocalypse
, the story lost all drive and momentum. Mareva also had these rat brain / superstitious brain characters that reminded me too much of the inner goddess bullshit in Fifty Shades of Grey. That is bad. All in all I really enjoyed the exploration of how society changed with the PVG virus in Erin's part, but after that it really went downhill. Savannah's story had its interesting parts, but good lord does the story come to full stops so the characters can make grand political points. Mareva's story was pointless.

3 stars mostly for the unforgettable experience of reading that brain licking scene on a flight from Seoul and shuddering so hard I undoubtedly alarmed the people next to me
