Unfortunately, Defy the Worlds didn't quite have me swooning the way Defy the Stars did. Maybe it's middle book syndrome, maybe it was my high expectations, or maybe it was because I was insanely sick and unable to properly focus. Who knows? But I just didn't love it the way I loved book one.

Now, that's not to say I didn't love it, because I friggin did and it was amazing! I got all the Abel back, and there were cliffhangers, and I seriously could not put it down. i just think it was missing some of the sass that really hooked me. But hey, it was still an excellent read, and will hopefully lead on to a 5 star conclusion in book three!

Age: ages 12+ could read it, but more suitable for 14+ and adults.
Warnings: Nothing bar a bit of violence

The sequel to "Defy the Stars" was one of my most anticipating of 2018. I knew that Claudia Gray was going to tear me up apart with her writing but I couldn't expect her to make me cry!

Abel and Noemi will have far more to deal with than their own feelings. Mansfield and the humans have created a secret project that will be 'revolutionary' on Earth, while the people of Genesis are in grave danger.

Noemi and Abel will have to team up again if they expect to stop everyone. And there's lots of action, amazing descriptions of planets and space-ship and also the POVs of Noemi and Abel. Despite being in the third POV, there is true emotion, realistic reactions and some good humor hidden in there.

The ending was horrible. And a cliffhanger. I really fear to see the next book.

That ending though!?! I just wish they gave her a little more personal growth and depth. Its sad that he machine is deeper than the human. Let that sink in... And just when she was about to start figuring out who she is without the biggest part of her life... Blam!

Claudia Gray writes stunning science fiction that's incredibly grounded in humanity. Defy the Fates takes a look at what it means to be humans; in the second book in the series, the conversation shifts slightly to belonging, loyalty, and identity. I love how the first half of the novel worked up towards the inevitable reunion between Abel and Noemi, and how the second half of the novel worked to set up the finale, Defy the Fates. The final three chapters absolutely wrecked me, and I can't wait to read the third book to discover the ending!

Poorer pacing and plot than the first installment. I still love Abel though. :P
