Defy the worlds is the second book in the constellation trilogy. It is just as enjoyable as the first one. it is the most beautiful story of what it means to be a human.

Sequel is set after 6 months. Noemi is back on planet Genesis where she is being treated like a pariah. Many of the other soldiers think that she doesn't deserve to serve as a soldier after the events of "Defy the stars". Meanwhile, Abel is living as "vegabond" and flying around the galaxy in his ship "persephone". Both Noemi and Abel think they'll never see each other ever again but fate brings them together again. Abel finds out Noemi is in danger and he rescues her. After the rescue Noemi and Abel uncover Earth's biggest secret. They try to find a way to stop the war and find the allies they need. The book ends on a huge cliffhanger.

I love the chemistry between Noemi and Abel. They have few misunderstandings but they never let it turn into a fight. Abel's character development and his transition from a mech to personhood is so well written. Pacing of the book is so tight that you never feel bored for a second.

Man, oh man, oh man. That book was incredible. I absolutely loved Defy the Stars so I was excited when this one came out! I actually ordered the print copy and the day it came in, my hold on the audiobook came in. I decided that I wanted to start it ASAP so I turned on the audiobook. I'd read the first one in print so it was a little strange adjusting to the audiobook at first. That feeling didn't take long though and I was as hooked as the print copy of the first book.

Gray does such a great job with these characters and their worlds. I loved getting to see more of Abel and Noemi. They're so unique and strong characters. I really enjoyed the adventures they went on in this book. It's full of danger and excitement.

I'll talk more about this book in the review which I'm about to hop on the blog to write.

I sailed through this continuation of the Constellation series. It’s been a while since I’ve been drawn into a sci fi world so accessible. I have a new book boyfriend, and it’s Abel. A mech with a soul who is programmed to be hyper-capable at every known skill in the universe and whose primary directive is taking care of me? Sign me up!!! I knocked off a star only because like most books that are over 400 pages, I feel it could have been better edited, less repetitive, and shorter.

Rounding up from 3.5: the "previously" part needs a little work - but for those who have read Defy the Stars will easily be able to pick up the threads of the plot. For much of the book, Abel and Noemi are separated and the parallel plots eventually intersect when Burton Mansfield puts his Master Plan into effect. The book is predictable, with the exception of Simon and Abel's reaction to him.

Not sure if there will be a Book Three; if there is, I probably won't read it.
