Just wanted to start this saying that I LOVE Rebecca Ross' writing. Her words feel like literal magic.

The pace of this second book is slower than the first and it focuses a lot more on the fantasy elements and the war. I'm a romance reader to the core, so that's why I didn't love this as much as Divine Rivals.
Nonetheless, I still really enjoyed Ruthless Vows. The found family, the angst, the letters, the writing (!!!!) and just πŸ’—πŸ’ŒπŸ’“ Iris and Roman πŸ’“πŸ’ŒπŸ’—

A duology that I certainly will come back to.

Didn't care about backstory of the gods, but the romance between FL and ML was top tier. I LOVE THEM BOTH. I do think the first book was better :)

Not as good as the first book, but just as sweeping, gorgeous, heartbreaking, swoon-worthy, and brilliant. Definitely a little darker and more fantasy world focused. I laughed. I cried. I held my breath. Roman and Iris forever.

"You’ve never uttered a vow, or felt it settle in your bones like magic. You’ve never sworn yourself to another.”

So sweet. Tropey and YA at times but I really enjoyed it. Great sequel, I liked it even better than the first!

What a beautiful end to this duology. Again, RR is a master at prose and this was beautifully done. I think the reason it’s a four for me this time and not a 5 is only because there was a lot of military strategy in the middle that I think could have been whittled down a bit. I’m also really glad not all our beloved characters made it out. War is gruesome and bloody and sad and she painted that perfectly. I will absolutely be reading more of her work.
