The first half was pretty good, with all the world building and whatnot. But the whole middle- probably from 40% to 85% through- was boring. The dialogue was so boring and predictable and felt very YA. The last ten percent or so was just an info dump:
jaren is the prince, Naari is his guard, and Kiva has magic to conveniently save Tipp. Oh and wait- she’s actually the rebel queens daughter!! Which makes no sense, because she acted like Tilda was a stranger the entire time.
I’m frustrated with the ending. The whole book felt very very YA and I wasn’t expecting it. Maybe if I were 13 I’d like it better.

Cliffhanger un po' prevedibile e world building semplice, adatto a lettori fantasy neofiti. Molto carina la storia e ben scritto

A four elements, trials based fantasy story with a budding romance between the main character and the new prisoner (albeit reluctantly). Or so it seems! I predicted some of the twists in this but
the last page left me shook!

I don't understand the reviews. I struggled to get through this.

The characters...the main character was SO annoying and oblivious I was rolling my eyes so far back into my head. The male lead had potential but fell flat and left no lasting impression on me. The side characters though, now THEY were interesting. Shout out to Tipp and Mott for being MVPs and for Naari for staying aloof and cool though it all.

The writing was so repetitive I felt crazy, and so pointlessly descriptive I started skim reading.

And the plot was...so predictable, yet barely together. The way this book ended, and the character motivations and next steps of the plot...I just don't think I have it in me to finish this trilogy. I was not connected at any point to anything. Except maybe the princess and her girlfriend (one sentence in the whole book about this. It's not a spoiler).

This book has pages where I was laughing at banter, on the edge of my seat with worry, and engrossed in the story all the way through. There were plot twists and things that I didn’t expect, and a few times I expected the main character to die. Fully recommend.

This is an amazing book. The setting felt unique and darker than I was expecting for a YA book, but I was here for the atmosphere.

I loved the characters and how they dealt with the mystery and challenges that they find themselves in.
By time I got to the end of the book I was so happy that I already had the sequel. The ending left my mouth agape and me reaching immediately for the sequel.
