I couldn't put it down. It got off to a slow start, but then I wanted to find out what happened to each of the characters. It is difficult at times though, because of the violence and trauma. But it's still an important story to tell.

4.5 stars.

Oof. This one was like a gut punch.

This peek inside the life of 3 generations of Palestinian-American women is an upsetting but eye-opening read. The women live in Brooklyn but are trapped by their cultural tradition that leaves females as "less than". A tradition where parents are upset when a baby girl is born instead of a boy. A tradition where girls are married off as teenagers and end up as teenage mothers as well. A tradition where a woman's only role in life is to be a wife and a mother.

This book brought up all the emotions: anger, sadness, frustration...and in the end hope.

Highly recommend!
