What a book, this was fantastic! If I had to pick one character from a book to spend a day with - it would be mental Martha!

Objectively, very well done. The way Mason portrays Martha’s relationship with her loved ones is so real and honest. For some reason, I didn’t super connect with the story, but it’s probably a me thing
This was much better than I thought it was going to be and I don't really know what that says about me as a person or whether I'm just a snob when it comes to everyone raving about the same book.
Then again, it's been 3 years since Sorrow and Bliss was published and don't I feel like a right boob not reading this sooner.
It's funny and sad and has yucky bits that made my skin crawl and equally lovely parts that made me weep with joy and heartbreak.
There's something wrong with Martha - she knows it, everyone knows it - but what the f*ck is it?
Meg Mason draws you so quickly and so deeply into Martha's world that by the end, you're rooting for this anti-hero in her own story.
And the jokes - writing funny is not easy - getting comedic timing to slap within a very dire situation, not just once, or twice but throughout the whole book - is f*cking genius.
And they say women aren't funny lol

Though there were aspects of this book that I didn’t fully enjoy or understand the reasoning behind, I liked this overall. Mason’s prose is funny and heartfelt and well constructed, and this is one of the most honest depictions of mental health that I’ve read.
I would recommend this to anyone that liked The Wedding People!

So good so sad so funny. Hard to have anything but compassion for literally everyone involved.
I probably wouldn't have finished this book if I hadn't been stuck at an airport. I didn't get the point of it until around page 230 or so. Then it was brilliant. I'm so glad I stuck it out. Definitely worth the read.
