Are authors too dense to put proper trigger warnings ? If you're scared people wont read your shit if you put trigger warnings then don't write such a messed up book.
This was so promising and the whole premise is good but so very badly executed ,having rape as the main plot is not it. There is sexual assault , rape or CSA mentioned or graphically happening in every chapter and even had the MMC rap the fmc who is a rape and csa survivor. Like i get that it's her backstory but it's too much especially that the mmc did it several times too while " protecting " her and when she was drugged and passed out . He knew she was raped HE EVEN RAPED HER and he still shamed her for it and called her a whore and side fuck TO A RAPE VICTIME THAT HE SUPPOSEDLY LOVED.
The heroine was also made out to be this sex crazed druggie and victime blamed her ALOT but that's literally a trauma reponse to being rapped as a kid.
This book would have been MILES better if it was just a dark secret society book and even then it would have been average because they secret society part and all the fucked up shit they do was basic she mostly focused on them degreading and raping women ( as stated above ) and 0 plot or depth for ACTUAL secret societies , but this is NOT a dark romance because there was no romance involved so putting it in this genre just makes the author problematic.

This one didn’t catch my attention as much as the first one did immediately, but as soon as I had a day to sit down and read, I was immediately hooked. There were some plot twists closer to the end for Elli and her life that I would’ve never expected, and it was difficult to put the book down after that point. Recommend reading the trigger warnings for the book just in case, but excellent book nonetheless

If you read and loved The Ritual, run to read The Sinner. There is nothing fluffy, sweet, and sparky about this book; if you love the dark and depraved, this is the book for you. Shantel writes darker than black and twisted as hell. So, if you haven't read her books before, I would advise reading the trigger warnings.
As for myself, I gobbled up this book like a diabetic in a candy store. Sin is OTT jealous and protective and never takes no for answer. Elli embraces her inner demons, and when you combine these 2 things, you get a lot of smokin' hot, morally grey, and deviant smexy time.
Can't wait for the next installment written within this world!
