Definitely more plot development than the first and moved along by different things. Takes about 2/3 to pick up the pace. A slow burn,  cerebral development rather than action-packed. She does a great job leaving the reader undecided on whether a character is like able or unredeemable.

Okay, I don’t know there is going to be spoilers so I’m just taking it on to be safe.
Loved the book, though I didn’t fell in love with it as I did the first one.
It was a bit boring at times, for my taste anyway. The only thing that is nagging the hell out of me, is why Nico and Tristan didn’t go to Fowler and make him take her back. Or if I have misunderstood something about them not know Fowler a powers then why not see if Fowler really were a time traveler so they then could use him to get her back instead of hoping that she would make a nuclear bomb. I don’t know if I have missed something that would explain it since I heard it on audiobook, and was doing something while listening to it. So that may explain why. Otherwise I found the book kind of unnecessary since the plot was really meh. The characters were fantastic.that was also why I read it to the end. Loved all the characters- kind of. Liked the first book much better than this one though.

I liked the sequel way more than the first book! I personally didn't find it predictable. Even the direction of the characters' love stories weren't that predictable, and were well written and interwoven with the plot in my opinion. I'm never the biggest fan of split character chapters but this book did it well, as you're seeing the different perspectives of the same event/interaction for the most part and it was interesting seeing what moments different characters held onto and their own "before" and "afters". The way they overlapped and blended together made for a really nice flow to the story. I also loved how earlier chapters pieced together later when you could see the whole picture. All in all, a great read and I will be staying tuned for the next one. Would recommend this series to anyone who is a sucker for the dark academia aesthetic and likes magical realism!

While I raced through this book, it wasn’t nearly as fast-paced as the first book. This book expanded upon each of the character’s personalities, motivations, and associated trauma but somehow just missed the spark that kept me racing through the first book
