Powerful read. What struck me as a reader was how Sophie was from a middle class family and educated and yet she still was captured mentally and physically in the trafficking business. No graphic depictions but enough details referring to the horrid life of sexual slavery. I would rate it PG-14.

Sophie's story is absolutely horrifying, but it's so important for her to tell. Sex slavery (and other forms of human trafficking) is real and not just in "underdeveloped" nations but the US and Europe too. I'm so impressed with her courage and her ability to take this experience and become an advocate for other victims.
I hate to say anything negative about Sophie's story, because it is certainly clear that she went through a horrible experience. No one should be treated that way, and clearly the entire planet needs an education on how to respect women as equals.
That being said, I think that Sophie was an idiot. I know she had issues with her father, and was looking for love in all the wrong places, but seriously? This Kas guy was a creeper from day one. He was flat out stalking her at the nightclub and the way he got her phone number, which is still unclear. Yet, she decides to become BFF's with him, even though she doesn't see him for 4 years. Then she jets off to a different country to hang out with him? Poor, poor decision making skills.
Also, the amount of freedom she really did have under Kas gave her plenty of opportunities to seek help. Like, hello, the entire week she spent in France by herself while he was in Holland. With a cell phone. Unbelievable.
However, I do think that girls should read this so that they can use this as a learning tool. They can see all the horrible decisions Sophie made that landed her in the situation it did.

**MINOR SPOILER**
If it was an option, I'd actually probably choose 3.5 stars for this one. I think it's a valuable book because of the insights it offers into how Sophie Hayes was taken and kept captive even while given freedom to move around. And unlike some of the other reviewers, I didn't find that unbelievable at all. I could feel the terror she felt of Kas and her family being hurt if she didn't obey, and I could understand why she didn't run. That said, I did find it repetitive in places and disjointed in others, and I felt like there were a lot of unanswered questions (I never did understand how she could write a book and speak about the experiences but not press charges against her captor).
