DID NOT FINISH: 4%

Introduction gave it away, have seen lots of horror movies that must have been inspired by this and Idk I just don't care right now. May pick it back up later.

I liked the themes of the book but it almost felt like a textbook recounting a series of events. I didn't feel attached to the characters and although there are events with some of the characters that are objectively horrifying, I didn't really even feel the dread that I knew I should. I just felt somewhat creeped out

An interesting idea for a story, but the plot structure wasn't as well thought out. This certainly pales in comparison to The Chrysalids, which is quite good.

I loved the idea of the book, but I think it would have been better if there was less dialogue between the main characters, more interaction with the Children and a women's perspective throughout the book.

Not my favorite Wyndham (The Day of the Triffids still holds that title) but overall it was a good novel. I think if I didn't already know the story it would have been more impactful and engaging. As it was, I knew going in what had happened to the women of Midwich. Also, this story felt slow and like it dragged. For a book that spans years and is only 200ish pages, I expected for it to not be such a slog. Anyway, I'm glad I read it and Wyndham is, as is often the case, still a delight on the page.
