olivia sachdeva -

olivia is a meticulous lawyer who lives life in an orderly manner. she loves kate laurence, an actress who has the inane ability to make the rational olivia to lose herself in the fantasy and optimism of fiction.

her POV was so funny to read, and i honestly related to her on many things, even her awkwardness with kids. olivia refuses to know more about her favourite actress because she knows how much it sucks to feel the reality of your favourite being a completely different person than you envisioned. they are human after all, and they will disappoint on some front, so she refuses to know about them and put them on a pedestal that they cannot reach.

it is that very belief that makes olivia oblivious to the fact that kate laurence, her favourite actress is getting a divorce and is also bisexual.

reading olivia navigate the line between professionalism and an avid admirer was satisfying, and her growth was visible through and through with every subtle and loud element of the plot.

kate laurence -

kate laurence has been working in the industry since she was a child. but the time she was 21, she had already starred in about 10 films. she is so successful that she not getting nominated for an oscar is breaking news.

but just like every star has their secret, laurence is a bisexual woman who was in the closet when she married her wife. at that time, years ago, she was at crossroads as she played a queer role, something groundbreaking which incited both a lot of acclaim and backlash. so when she got married, it was a secret of sorts. now, with a daughter and son, she is seeking to divorce her wife who has kept her own secrets about the reality of her finances.

laurence’s strength and tiredness shine in her POV. she is an excellent mother from what is shown, but she also has a lot on her plate. the way she tries to read olivia and figure her out as if she is a puzzle is entertaining and very reminiscent of a true yearner that we do not really see in a contemporary romance novel.

the plot -

the plot is simple and beautiful. these two meet, become acquaintances, and their bond transcends one of professionalism and becomes personal. it is a sort of slow burn in my opinion, and i loved every bit of it.

the writing -

the writing was excellent, in my opinion, as it really reflected the characters in many ways. olivia’s POV consisted of short and curtly worded sentences that presented her thoughts just like her characterization has been created. kate’s POV is full of long sentences with a bit of ornate language but also glum dialogue that gives away the softness and optimism with which she lives but also struggles to hold onto in a fast paced and busy world.

yes, just yes. read it and love them yourself. i wish it could’ve swept me off my feet more but i still really enjoyed the read. they’re too kind, too gentle, too soft and so in love.
