First half was an easy read, second half was torturously long until Faramir came, and then the pacing moved swiftly again. Finally, this book has been conquered!

Look, this is not a proper review and it's definitely not a complaint. I just need to say out loud (well, in writing, I guess) how absolutely wild it was to spend hours upon hours listening to Fellowship and the first half of this, listening to Andy Serkis not do impressions of the rest of the cast of the movies, aside from some similar accents here and there, fully putting his own spin on the characters... only for Gollum to show up. I don't know what I was expecting. I think I was, indeed, fully expecting Gollum's actor to play Gollum again here, but nothing prepared me for movie Gollum showing up in the middle of this audiobook that sounded otherwise nothing at all like the movies. I was delighted, I was laughing, I was charmed. Andy Serkis is an international treasure.

The book is good, too.
