I was expecting a lot more from this book, but it’s mainly parenting drama. The main characters are fine, but not great. The only redeeming factor is the quality of the spice. 🌶️

Wow, I really hated this book. I tried to find something I liked about it the entire time because I lead a book club and this was one of our monthly choices. Now I have to lead a discussion on a book I despised.

It's not the nanny trope that did it, although this nanny trope felt really awful to me. How weird that Aiden was still paying her salary for so long while they were sleeping together. How icky that his daughter just lost her mom and now she has to be afraid of losing her nanny if they break up. I don't think the author realized how traumatic this could be for a child, but I digress.

But what I hated most is the lying. This wasn't even "miscommunication." It was flat out lying for almost the entirety of the book. It was exhausting. Cassie is exhausting. Aiden is exhausting. Poor Sophie.

And don't even get me started on the audio. Nails on a chalkboard bad.

This book was a 50/50 for me.

The first half of the book was pretty slow, a little awkward for everyone. No literally the main character Cassie said how awkward every conversation with Aiden was in the beginning. I honestly almost DNFed because it was so slow and just wasn’t buying that they had any connection at all.

What kept me going was Sophie, Aiden’s daughter, and Wanda, Cassie’s best friends/motherly figure. Those relationships were sweet and funny.

HOWEVER. Once Aiden and Cassie confessed their feelings and finally started hooking up the book did a complete 180. The dialogue got better, the romance got better, there was more development. Overall the smut made everything else better too XD

Speaking of smut… damn this book was steamy! Very hot, very fun.

The third act breakup was little dumb, but honestly Aiden was such a sweetheart and Sophie was so sweet I just honestly enjoyed myself by the end of it all.

I flew through this book in about 24 hours and I’m looking forward to Lana’s next books which is a contemporary fantasy romance!
