this started as a sweet story about the power of community and friendship, especially in times of crisis, but the sheer ridiculousness of the plot took me out of it.

you're telling me a) a principal allowed a child to make a speech at assembly without running it past anyone first, and b) the council waived their nonsense bureaucracies to make a shelter because a little girl talked to someone from the future (but didn't have to, you know, prove it to the adults). sure, jan.

This is an excellent Dystopian Future + time slip.    The slightly lower score is because I worry that these books that keep telling children that they can change the future is putting too much pressure on our children.   Additionally the publishers are prompting this as 8+ but personally I think I would be saying at least 10+ I think the dystopian setting is more descriptive and scary than Bren MacDibble books.
