I read this as a recommendation and am so glad I did. Tara is a poetic writer, somehow always phrasing her ideas in the perfect way. This book found its way to me at exactly the right moment & I'm grateful to have spent time with it!

I devoured this book in 2 days and it moved me so much that I couldn’t wait to share it with the other amazing women in my life! It’s not that the book has some remarkable new information that I didn’t have before. It’s that the book makes you acknowledge what you know and stop ignoring it. It gives you practical ways to deal with the many challenges women are up against and uses one of my favorite methods for processing ideas and information which is journaling. Very powerful stuff and every woman should read this and take it to heart.

I have never given non-fiction 5 stars, but this book truly spoke to me.

If you like Brené Brown's work, you'll probably find this book helpful, too. It is a practical manual for doing the internal, mental preparation needed to make bold, visible moves and pursue big, scary dreams. It's geared toward women but stays away from victim-blaming and is realistic about the external barriers women can face in our professional lives.

This book is very much about the power of finding and tuning into your own best self, rather than your inner critic, so that you can view a situation more objectively. There's some great guidance on distinguishing whether feedback is helpful or meant to hold you back. We harbor doubts and make excuses to protect ourselves from failure or criticism that may be inevitable, no matter how well-prepared we are. The book doesn't promise "playing big" will be easy or that it won't feel scary -- rather the opposite! But it does promise greater fulfillment.

Read a library copy, but planning to purchase my own so I can revisit it regularly.

good ideas around the various ways perfectionism can hold us back, and that what we learned about how to succeed in school is often not going to help in industry. Also, don't keep going for external markers of expertise by getting another degree.
