I loved the characters. dragon is great. I mean straight-up love him. It's easy to see why Annwyl feels such a deep emotional connection and his uncertainty as to why he is interested in a mere human female is wonderful. And poor Annwyl feeling the emotional connection to a dragon and physical attraction to a man. It leaves the reader laughing and sighing all at once. This is a love story and action and fantasy. It's amazing.

Only read the first story in this book, and didn't read more than the first few chapters of the second. Way too much sex, and I was so over it. I actually liked the story in the first, and felt it could have been a lot better if the author would have focused less on sex scenes, and more on writing an actual story.

I read this for a book group, otherwise I never would have picked it up. There's a reason I don't generally like to read romance, and this book was a prime example.

Read if you love: Strong female characters, clincher covers, old fashioned bodice rippers, Welsh dragons, mate bonds, a few chains, fangs and claws, men that could kill you, plots being unimportant, big titty warrior women, sweating in your fantasy settings, being called a brat or a princess.

Avoid if you love:
Names you can pronounce, dialogue that feels realistic, substantial plot, unpredictable twists and turns, communication.

I’ve read a few in this series multiple times and for some reason I keep coming back to it even though I wish I didn’t. It’s like a supermarket cake - cheap, tasteless, not good for me, but something about it scratches an itch.

It’s a great read if you like a good, cheesy fantasy romance with all of the typical tropes. Annwhyl isn’t a particularly realistic portrayal of a likeable strong-willed woman given how often she takes heads, but Fearghus is fun, especially in dragon form.

I actually prefer the story of Rhiannon and Bercelak that’s tacked onto the end. That grumpy dragon has my heart.

“I don’t involve myself in the petty problems of men.”
“But I’m a woman.” She smiled again, and he would have laughed if he weren’t so annoyed.
“That you are. And the answer is still no.”
She pushed herself off the bed. “We could help each other.”
“Wouldn’t you rather just take all my gold and jewels, kill me in my sleep, and be done with it?”

‘Twas a funny one.

Dragon Actually - ***3.5***
Chains and Flames - ***2***

I really had fun with Dragon Actually, and since that novel was the main part of this book, the overall rating above is for that book. I thought it was fun, and absolutely hilarious. A great light read that left me smiling.

Chains and Flames, the short story that was included as an addition at the end of the book, just wasn't my thing. Firstly, to just be above-board about it, BDSM isn't something that appeals to me. Not that I don't recognize that some people love it... I am just saying it doesn't light my fire, so to speak. So given that, this short seemed to be about breaking Rhiannon. I don't like the "no no no... yes yes yes!" thing at all. But, to each their own.

Regardless, I'm happy to read onward in the series, as I'd like to see what happens with the rest of the dragon siblings.

Thoroughly enjoyed this one. I laughed out loud many times, and I enjoyed the banter between the two MCs. I read this on a whim and was pleasantly surprised by how fun it was. The MCs never annoyed me, despite how much I hated their choices, which has been a huge problem in most of what I've read lately (istg my tolerance level has plummeted).

My only qualms are a couple comebacks during their banter that I didn't particularly like, and the fact that she forgave him so easily at the end. My list of books with worthy grovel is determined to remain in the single digits.

Other than that, this was a great read. If you black cat FMCs this one is wonderful.

Edit: only 64% of the current book is this actual story. I was surprised when it ended because there was so much left in the book, but the rest of the pages are for the dragon parents' story.

I am obsessed with the Dragon Kin series. With each book it just gets better and better. Dragon Actually is a great introduction to the series.

I love the family dynamics of Fargas's family. They might not try to be funny but they sure make me laugh. Of course they are dragons, so I can only thing good of them. When Fargas stumbles across a female warrior fighting with everything she has, he was intrigued. Reading their relationship develop was a thrill. So much awkwardness. I was completely entertained.

I love listening to the audiobooks while I work in the fields. They make the day go so much faster and I get to laugh.

10/10/22 The husband wanted to binge listen to the series. There was no way I was going to say no.

I love this series and have read it multiple times. I think the audio version is my favorite. It gave me permission to laugh out loud, very loud. The husband and I could talk about it while driving. AMAZING!!
