Just like with Murder on the Orient Express, I tried SO hard to figure it out - took notes, reread practically the whole book. And it turned out my main theory was RIGHT and it was SO deeply satisfying!!!

I enjoy classic mysteries like this. Interesting characters, crimes upon crimes, a resolution that's hard to see coming, and a less melodramatic reveal than sometimes comes with Poirot stories (which I prefer). The characters aren't particularly deep and Christie leans harder on stereotypes than modern readers enjoy, but the plot is worth a read.

Racism and sexism typical of this era in Western culture (early 20th century).

Really intricate plot, tad slow build up to a good reveal! I didn’t guess most of it, and I’m looking forward to the Kenneth Branagh movie coming out! Glad I read it first :)

This is the first Agatha Christie I've read and I can't believe it took me so long. The style is so easy to read but there's a hugely clever mystery at its heart, and the build-up introduces the huge cast of characters in an engaging way, so I didn't get lost.

Poirot is of course an absolute treasure, but it was even more delightful reading about his gentle mannerisms and his lovely turns of phrase than watching them on TV. I love that he knows exactly how clever he is and manages to make that fact perfectly clear without seeming pompous or arrogant.

There's very little actual tension in this murder mystery, but it was fascinating nonetheless; it's a delightful read for a Sunday evening under a blanket. I will definitely be working my way through Christie's works!

This one is on par with my other favorites from Christie. The characters were pretty fun, but I did have a hard time keeping things straight at the beginning (as per usual for me), but nevertheless enjoyed it once I remembered who was who. It's a fun read and will have you second guessing yourself. I did enjoy the reveal and depressing ending.

This book did not age well, the mystery is alright but racism and misogyny is pretty rampant. I also don't think I really like Poirot very much. He was my least favorite Agatha Christie detective so not too surprised there but he's just so arrogant when you are going through his POV. I know there's a movie adaptation coming out (it's why I rented this one) but now I'll just wait to see the movie when it's on streaming.
