I finished Cade and Willa’s story in one sitting because I genuinely couldn’t put it down. To be honest, I was rushing to get to reading Reckless, but I enjoyed this, nevertheless. Luke was an adorable addition to this grumpy x sunshine story. I appreciated how Elsie Silver touched up on the conflicts and insecurities couples in age-gap relationships face. I don’t read a lot of the trope and it’s not exactly a favorite, so Heartless was definitely a first. Again, little to no conflict, just feel-good all over and let me tell you Cade has a fucking dirty mouth. The smut just keeps getting better to the point where I don’t know if I want Willa or be her. The banter and family dynamics here were hilarious as well (big shoutout to Harvey for the ‘innocent’ blowjob jokes). Currently rushing to Jasper and Sloane as we speak.

Pretty damn cute. Hard not to love when a secret-softie grump lets someone in. The interactions with Luke were adorable (though he does not seem 5 at all to me?). Some bits were pretty cringe/unrealistic, but overall it was a solidly sweet read.

Closed Door Mod: Chapter 14 (some parts), Chapter 21 (some parts), Chapters 22-23, Chapter 26, Chapter 28

Continuing on my cowboy romance era after absolutely loving Done and Dusted by Lyla Sage, I decided to give Elsie Silver’s Chestnut Spings series for a try. Heartless, the second book in the series, follows Cade as he reluctantly hires Willa to be his son’s nanny for the summer.

Personally, I liked Heartless. Though I wasn’t as obsessed with it as I was when I reading Done and Dusted, I had a really nice time reading the book. I thought the plot was really engaging, and I give Silver bonus points for this book not being one of those books where you had to read the other books in the series before getting to this one. It honestly was a breeze to get through, so some readers could (in theory) finish this book in a day or two. However, what I liked most about Heartless was the relationship between Willa and Cade. You can tell that Silver put a lot of time investing in these characters backstories as well as setting up a slow burn to have you root for them to get together in the end. Additionally, I felt that Willa and Cade get their own moments to shine through their own character development, both because of their relationship as well as their own growth as a person.

If you’re looking for a slow-burn, grumpy x sunshine featuring a cowboy single dad, you might enjoy Heartless.

Not the pregnancy trope, that’s the only reason this isn’t 5 stars for me
