This was a little less interesting to my children (7 and 5) than the other Moomintroll books we've read aloud. It was still endearing, though, and a very fun story. They loved the ending. We really enjoyed finding out who Snufkin's mother is - who would have thought?!?!

Laszlo and I got bogged down in our evening read-aloud with this one. Moominpappa is just such a stuffy, self-congratulatory ass that it stopped being funny after a while. Even though I do love all thing Moomin, I couldn't finish this re-read.
I’ve been moved to tears by the beauty this book holds in its boards

- Samaa sarjaa ku meriseikkailu, tosin enempi äksöniä ja absurdeja juttuja. Lasten ihastusta en ihmettele, mut ite viihdytyin vain hetkeksi.

My least favorite of the Moomin novels, probably because Moominpappa is my least favorite of the Moomins. Having Pappa narrate was a nice touch--his tendency towards exaggeration made him an interestingly unreliable narrator. If you like the Moomin novels, you have to read this one--I just don't think it stands on the same level as the others.
