Didn’t realize this was a YA novel until I picked it up. Don’t want to read about a kid wandering around alone in some post apocalyptic world.

I really enjoyed the beginning. "Here is the boy, drowning." A fantastic first sentence. I was pulled right into the story. Unfortunately More Than This is far too long for what it offers, and I quickly grew bored as the storyline plodded along.

The mystery strung me along, but the reveals felt unsatisfying, and in the end there weren't enough answers for me to do more than blink, mildly confused and mostly frustrated.

Yes, I can see the themes Ness explores in this YA novel, and they're certainly interesting, but while I don't mind an open ending, More Than This just didn't work for me.

Overall, it's a well-written, slightly quirky and definitely bizarre science fiction (and dystopian) novel with a lovely message at its core. If you like Ness' writing, give this one a try.

I've been thinking about what to write for the review for awhile now. Honestly I can't put into words just how amazing this book is. When I think of this book I think of the words Beautiful, Unique, Intense . So I've decided that the way to give my thoughts on this book, is to tell why I think of those 3 words when this book comes to mind.

Beautiful: The first thing I noticed while reading this was the basic writing style of it all. The words Patrick Ness uses bring the whole story together. From the very beginning one is pulled in to a world like no else, and if it wasn't for the quality of writing the book would be completely different.

Unique: The story itself was something I've never read before. The whole time the reader is basically in the dark learning with Seth on where exactly he is. Questioning everything that happens. Most YA books these days follow the same guidelines and usually have little depth. But when they don't follow they normal they are something new and exciting. I feel that More Than This is one of those books.

Intense: When reading this book there were times when I just had to put it down, not due to that I was liking it but that there is so much and it really makes you think. Just like Seth you have no idea what is going on. Is he really in Hell or is he just dreaming? He died, you saw it, but why does he feel alive? Every time you think you have it figure out Ness throws another twist at you, leaving you more confused than you were before.

All in all I loved this book and feel that everyone should at least give it a shot.
