I watched the movie before reading the book, I have to admit. But it’s what drew me to the book in the first place. I love how Riordan’s narration adapts well to the mind of a twelve year old, simplistic when it needs to be but also descriptive to help the readers imagine the scene. The story... I liked the plot, but I feel it was rushed in a way. He’s twelve and seems mature in his actions. That’s my only complaint. Besides that, I really enjoyed it!

A loveable cast of characters and a world which invites your imagination to take flight even as an adult.
Percy is a bit immature and rude but in a believable and funny way. Mental health struggles and learning disabilities are reframed as strengths. It also tackles a lot of issues with parents/families which a lot of children can find relatable.
The chapters sometimes end and jump to a new scene quite quickly and each segment has a similar set-up of arriving at a location to then find trouble but it makes for a quick paced read.

I just love all the books in these series. It's fun to re-read them.
Attempting to get back into the minds of my middle-schoolers. I forgot just how good this book is! Great plot, hilarious characters, and pretty decent sentence variation (which makes it very helpful for grammar lessons).

tbh I spend years doubting the worth of this series, bcs sadly, i watched the movie first (which is ass except for Logan Lerman my beloved), I found the Half-blood shirts ugly (i’m not sorry) and also bc I was a HP girly (and always will, im so cringe, i know) so it was like treason to my tumblr community.
But let me tell you, this was so much fun <3 Percy is an amazing mc, he’s funny and charming, and is easy to relate to, the fast pace made it enjoyable and you just need more and more. I also loved how the author adapted and incorporated the greek mythology into the story, i mean, details like the spiders and the zebra??? wow ahhshshsh
