Super enjoyable fantasy. Easy storytelling and worldbuilding that I could get lost in.

Just not for me. I guess this stuff takes place way after a different series by this author which is something I hate. And suddenly at the end the readers aren't told who they found out had the medallions and stuff which just feels cheap after being told everything that happens prior to this. The ending to Book 1 was much better than the ending to Book 2 as the first wrapped everything up whereas the second didn't. I don't think I'll read the rest of the series.

Two books in one. Read the first book, might come back to the second later.

Relatively straight forward story but builds to a satisfying conclusion and is a great entry in Michael Sullivan's interesting world.

I never, ever, review anything. This is the first thing I've reviewed in my life (and posted).

But I couldn't help myself. The book is just that good. I'm not reading a book, I'm watching a movie, going on an adventure with Royce and Hadrian. Sullivan did an amazing job with making the book feel real, authentic, and fresh. His heroes were not the typical knights in shining armor, but partners in crime with mysterious pasts. Maybe a book this complex would've bombed had another author tried to pull it off, but Sullivan put these ideas together beautifully.

At first, I didn't even want to read this book. It seemed too gory, too cliche, too inappropriate, and too long (I'd rather read a short book I don't like than a long one). It was none of these things. Let me tell you, finally picking this book up was something of a happy mistake: I didn't mean (or want) to do it, but when I did, I didn't regret it. At first I just got the book to placate my friend who says it's her favorite, and then it became one of mine.

Anyone who's wondering if they should read this book, try it. You won't be disappointed.

Thank you, Michael J. Sullivan, for creating the best book I've read in a long time and never giving up on publishing it!

It's a book with two books in one. I read the first one and decided to switch to something new without reading the second combined book.

This wasn't perfect by any means (I had some issues with the pacing, and admittedly any time the story focused anywhere other than with our two leads I was irritated and impatient to get back to them), but it was a hell of a good time.

Interesting enough to enjoy but this is one of those high fantasy books that gets lost amongst all the others in the genre. I feel like this book was the most cliche high fantasy you could find. It includes a crown conspiracy, where it’s up to two outsiders to rescue the hairs. It includes a battle against a dragon(?) and it includes a powerful wizard, along with a true hair to the crow. The book was unique in its own way but at the same time it felt like a story I had heard a thousand times already.
