I finally finished watching the anime so I am reading the official English translation for the first time. I'd read the fan translation back in my teenage years so I'd only had a vague idea of the story before starting the anime. The science is definitely outdated but the way it is written, it can almost count as historical fiction and can be critiqued that way. The outmoded norms of behaviour can also be handwaved away, at least in my mind. It's like watching adults who are set in their ways and reveal themselves as definitely older than you and raised in a different time.

I feel a little decieved ’cus I’ve heard a lot of praise for this series and when I finally read it I was very disappointed. I did not like the artstyle at all and I felt like Nyu was a very strange pick for almost, if not, most of the ongoing fan service.
Nyu is practically mentally disabled, cannot say anything but ”Nyu”, doesn’t understand speech, cannot change her own clothes, and isn’t even potty trained.
Kouta is also such an annoying protagonist to follow. He’s always got some pervy thoughts about all the girls around him (one of them being 12. He’s in University).
I’m not getting into the cousin love… (yikes)
I did, however find the rest of the plot interesting to follow. I’m curious how the story will progress, but I’m apprehensive if I can bear all the shenanigans this series throws at me… (I also liked the short stories at the end. They were a bit odd too but I found them interesting)
I’m going to give this 2 stars?? idk man.

Minor: Suicidal thoughts, Car accident, Suicide attempt
I’m not entirely sure how I feel about this one. It was a lot darker and violent than I was expecting, but that isn’t what bothers me. I am only rating this manga so highly because of how badass Lucy is. She is an unstoppable force that doesn’t take crap from anyone. But she’s not entirely a heartless monster, either. She doesn’t kill without being provoked.
However, while I love Lucy, I hate Nyu. I understand there’s some trauma in her past that has reduced her to the form she’s currently in, but I find her unbearably annoying. She constantly crosses boundaries and causes issues for the other characters around her. I really don’t like the way she is written. I also would have preferred far less unnecessary nudity. It added nothing to the story and made reading it incredibly uncomfortable.

This manga is better than the anime. I saw the anime first and then saw the collection and knew I had to read it. The manga is more gruesome than the anime and can really feel the emotions of the characters. It is well written and is definitely worth a read.
