Can take or leave this one tbh. Like it’s cute but the lack of flashing back to ‘present day’ leaves too much in the air. Like how does the future change? Implications? Idk

The premise of this book intrigued me but I wish it had gone further. At times the characterisation was awkward, and I think the references could have used fine tuning. However this was still an easy listen (and I assume read) and I’d recommend it if you like a little bit of magic in your romance.

I didn't like the main character at first, but by the end I was gripped by this book. A turn I wasn't expecting

Going to be completely honest and say that I groaned when I found out it was a time travel novel. I don’t know what it is about them, but they don’t do much for me. Especially because I just read Casey McQuiston’s latest novel ‘One Last Stop’.
I’ve really enjoyed Michelle and Ali’s previous books so I at least had to give it a chance. I found the beginning to be a little slow, or maybe it was my reluctance to continue with the time travel plot? I pushed through and enjoyed it a little more as the story progressed. Love the pop culture references scattered throughout. Still not one of my M&A faves but it was a nice, easy read to escape what has been a bit of a bin fire over the last few weeks. I truly hope this is the last time travel book I read for the year!
Thanks Michelle and Ali, look forward to the next one!

2.5-3 stars.
Am I confused, or was this not a romance? It's marketed as a romance. It's all about romance. But there's no real "swoony" romance in this book. There's no convincing of forever love. There's also a hint of cheating from the MC - a huge no-no in the romance genre.
Don't get me wrong. It's not a bad book. I think it explores a really interesting aspect of adulthood and hustle culture (how much more successful could I have been if I just did x?). I liked Evie. I liked her ambition and drive. I think she took more control of her life and her choices as the book developed.
But I was waiting for a romance that when it came, was barely there. The ending left me so unsatisfied. Hugo always felt like a passing fling and novelty and I found myself rushing through his scenes, desperately seeking that "big perfect love" which just didn't come.
For me, this book is women's fiction with a romance sub-plot which isn't a bad thing, but I just don't like being marketed a romantic comedy that has no real romance at all.
