This is a beautiful collection of poems by Sabrina Benaim. Her poems are truly beautiful, lyrical, and striking. This is a book that I greatly enjoyed reading!
I remember watching her perform her poetry in YouTube when I was younger and falling in love with her style, so when I spotted this book at the library I knew I recognized the author. So I checked it out and read it, afterwards I remembered watching her online, and sure enough, her poetry is still in my favorite poems playlist!

I love Sabrina’s writing. She has an amazing ability to write for herself and her own experiences while also leaving just enough vacancy for the reader to connect as well.

Her first one is still my favorite but I just love the way she writes, such clear imagery.

"Fluttering fear that can´t fly.
Wings kept on the inside.

Kind of like this madness.
This flightless fury."

thank you to goodreads and the publisher for the giveaway copy! i don't read a lot of poetry, but I enjoyed the themes in this (though it was quite depressing), and the writing was well done.

I personally really connected to these poems. I feel like the author really captured what it is like to live with depression and low self esteem. I typically read books for a sense of escapism but this collection really connected with me and gave me a sense of feeling understood in my ongoing mental health struggle. Here is a clip of a poem I really enjoyed “…I cannot leave the house without makeup. There is a voice in my head that paralyzes me. I am surprised to find there is a safety under the mask of dusk…everything feels OK. Back inside, I catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror & begin to cry”.

With all writing that deals with this subject matter, I recommend making sure you are in a sufficient mental state to handle reading about these themes.
