This is a bodyguard romance and it’s the second book in the Gods of Hunger series. It is action-packed with Khaos Falls running into a lot of political turmoil, so if you’re not particularly up for suspense, twists & turns, maybe try a different book! If you’re a romantic suspense honey though, you may really enjoy this one!
I haven’t really read a satisfying enemies-to-lovers darker romance in a bit, but Aphrodite & Heph’s story had me drooling hahaha. Their forced proximity primes them for tons of hateful, infuriating banter, and then eventually, love 🥰 Since this is a Greek mythology contemporary retelling, you *expect* complicated and fraught family dynamics, and Virtues delivers those in spades.
I think Heph’s disability was written with so much care, as it wasn’t highlighted as anything “wrong” with him or that it “ruined his life,” but it was something to not be ignored because it was indeed an important, worthy part of his identity. I generally loved how he was so grumpy but eventually showed his softer side to Aphrodite. The smut was great, but those softer moments are what made me kick my feet into the air hahaha.
steam rating: 5 out of 5, be serious! 🥵 I am not a fan of the “daddy” kink but this was still fun & I loved the representation of the lube for Aphrodite & the thoughtfulness with which (and also this should be bare minimum behavior for IRL partners btw!!!) Heph was equipped with lube after?! 🥹

Trans FMC, Disabled MMC. Hate to Love 🤭 bodyguard romance.
AHHH! 😭 This series just keeps getting better & better! She is such a badass wow I am obsessed with her! Running a district & 🌶️clubs while also rescuing women who are being tr@ff¡cked, which leads to her being in danger and needing a bodyguard 🫢 of course it had to be the man she can’t stand. The banter and back and fourth 😮💨 the way they got to know each other and took the time to accommodate FOR EACH OTHER!?? 😩😩 LOVEEEEDDD! For example the 🌶️🌶️🌶️!?? Yea he took CARE of her & oh yea there’s daddy k ¡ ñ K 👀The plot also kept me hooked! Also no third act breakup! And she saves herself 😌💅🏻
My only complaint is that I wish we got more info on their race/ethnicities just bcuz I feel like that’s always essential to a character & I don’t like guessing or leaving it up for interpretation 🫠

I will say that at the beginning of the book it was slightly slow but as the story progressed and you see that tension between Aphrodite and Hephaestus... Ugh, makes the spice 🔥 (Is it me or is there a sauna here? 🥵)
KF is so intriguing. I do feel that this is by far one of the best retellings regarding greek mythology. And most importantly, I love that there was so much diversity. Now, time for book three :)

The choke hold this book series has on me is astounding and I want nothing more from these books. They are perfection. Flawed characters, enemies to lovers, and safe, sane, consensual sex are my favorite troupes.

This simply wasn't my book. I liked the overall plot with the danger etc. but the kink was not for me so I couldn't enjoy a lot of the book. Also I didn't like the way the relationship developed in the beginning. Felt fast. I just prefer slow development.
