the messages got a little heavy handed for me, like i didn't feel that it was necessary to have the feminist overtones spelled out so frequently and blatantly. i would rather have just drawn my own conclusions for ji-won's motivations bc they were pretty clear to begin with. BUT, all that being said, i thought it was a fun thriller with a fun killer protagonist to root for, and the heavy handedness of it made sense in that context. like yeah i'll root for the traumatized man killer, she deserves a little treat.

Who would’ve thought I’d ever root for a cannibal? Not me!

The way this novel made me feel like such a fly on the wall, staring at the lives of Ji-won and her mother and sister as they struggled to deal with the loss of their husband / father through sudden abandonment. Even the seemingly dull aspects of their living were made fascinating by the constant tension underlying their interactions with one another.

This is more than just a story of a young woman with a sick hunger for eyeballs.. it’s a look into generational trauma and grief through the Korean-American perspective. It’s about learning how to combat against oppression from white supremacy. It’s about someone losing their mind to the downsides of life, despite being the cause of some.

Now admittedly there are some plot holes throughout, especially in the ending, but if you’re willing to suspend disbelief then “eye” gotta say.. you’ll love this revengeful tale!

Finished the book because I had to but wasn't a huge fan. The gore was quite vivid which shows talent but the main character is not likeable in the least. It was a well written book in my opinion though because I have a lot of complex feelings which shows hiw amazing the author is.

Actually really good book! It definitely is a bit slow to get into but once it starts, it gets the ball rolling! The whole idea is so unique and we see Ji-won truly unravel at the end of the book. You also start to realize as she tells her story that she isn’t as shy and submissive as she appears to be, especially once we realize how manipulative she can be. It was also great to see her mind tricking her and her delusions, almost tricking me at times and making me think i’m crazy. Overall, really good book and a fun short read! Finished in two days.
