Jericho Brown is a new to me poet, but a friend's review of his poetry piqued my curiosity!

The Tradition did not at all disappoint! I listened to the audio version, and it was so good I listened twice! The words sing a poignant song that will not leave you unmoved.

Utter perfection and I highly recommend!

Poetry is always a hit or a miss for me, and while I liked the writing, overall this isn't one of my favorites but I can definitely see why it won a Pulitzer Prize. Great writing but not a favorite. Still, I liked it enough that I'm giving it a solid 3 ⭐.

I'm not rating this simply because I don't think I understood it well enough to do so. I'm not super familiar with poetry, especially in English, but I've been trying to read more of it. Clearly though, this was a little more demanding than what I'm more used to reading. I felt like I properly understood about 1/3 of the poems. I really appreciated the poems I did feel I understood, but I really don't feel like I got a good enough grasp at the entire collection to rate it or fully review it.

Powerful poetry which demands and rewards rereading—simple on the surface, but revealing greater depth, pathos, pain, anger, and hope with every repetition.

[2019] Notes to self…Came for the poem, “Bullet Points” but stayed for the rest. Loved the “Duplex” poems, where he used the same form but with different message.
