Audibly groaning as I imagine Stephen king writing himself into his own book and smirking to himself when he makes a character say “he’ll probably never be that famous” about him

I like Stephen King ... as a person. We've never met but I feel I know him nonetheless. His personality seems to come through in his writing. I certainly haven't read all of his books, but I've read enough to feel I know Stephen King.

Anyway, King admits he really doesn't have much of a plot lined out when he writes. He simply writes and lets the story go whichever way it happens to go. I love and hate this about King's writing. Sometimes it works others ... not so much.

This time I think it worked brilliantly. Like most King novels, it takes 50-100 pages to really get hooked. I won't spoil it for those who haven't read it yet but I think King came up with a fascinating twist to this story that has me eager to move on to the next in the series (usually I like a break between King novels).

Stephen King, you've got some serious ground to make up in the seventh book...

I had honestly forgotten that it was in Book 6 that King appeared, not 7. This still feels like a bridge between two other novels, an interlude rather than a full story. But I find the meta inclusion of King to be more appealing. Is it vain? A sign that King hit some writer's block in advancing the story? Perhaps, but it also really works for me. The rest of the novel is okay in comparison though Susannah is at least a fully baked female character to read which isn't the King standard.

The journey continues. It is clear that these latter instalments of the Dark Tower series where written closer together. They flow and make it much easier for the constant reader.
The group are all separated in this volume but still following the beam to the final destination.
