Mickey Gibson is a single mother and works for a global investigation company. She gets a call from a colleague to check out a vacant house where she discovers a dead body. Mickey finds herself in a battle of wits with the mysterious caller who is not who she says she is…

I really enjoyed this book. I did feel a little confused as there were a lot of characters and the narration for the male characters all sounded the same to me so it was hard to differentiate. However, the narration for the female characters were excellent. I absolutely loved Mickey and Francine, I thought they were incredibly strong female characters and I loved their dynamic. I really liked the ending and felt like everything had been tied up. I cannot wait to see what happens in the next Mickey Gibson book!

There was some outdated language that shouldn’t have been used like “killed herself”, which should be changed to “took her life” to reduce the stigma and blame surrounding suicide.

⚠️ CWs: cursing, gun use, cheating, rape, sexual and physical assault, murder, paedophilia, comments about weight, child abuse, child sex trafficking; mentions derogatory language, animal cruelty and murder, suicide ⚠️

New characters, finally. The plot moved right along. Had me thinking from the beginning. So many questions…what’s with this chick, what’s her connection to Mickey, where is her dumb ass ex, can she trust her boss who she only communicates via telephone with? I felt the storyline was more compelling than his last few books.
medium-paced

Dnf’ed at page 252.

I’m sorry… but like there is no pace to this story. And nothing really seems to connect to anything. Mickey us just boring as hell.

I will say Clarice’s povs we’re great. Honestly if the whole thing was told from her pov I might have finished the book.
