I'm a fan of Mayor Pete, and there is a lot of Mayor Pete here. The mix of personal story and philosophical review of politics and trust was quite enjoyable. There is a true meaning to the book, but there is also a basic story here that isn't as moving, but it's well spoken.

A great exploration of the concept of Trust, the history of it, it's importance, and application in our everyday world.

A fascinating look at Pete personally in line with history and the ideas of trust. Enjoyed listening to him tell his story in audiobook format.

Phenomenal. Mayor Pete does an excellent job of breaking down a seemingly easy concept like trust and applying to American politics, life, and culture, that makes the reader think hard about how and why we got where we are. As he mentions at the onset - this book isn't a map so much as a signpost and his goal isn't too preach at us - but to make Americans understand how important trust is in each other, in our daily lives, and in our government. He talks about how trust used to be so high, how we lost it (or in some cases never received it), and what we can do to gain it back. Mayor Pete's examples, research, and insight into American trust is astonishing and really makes readers think how different our lives could really be. Fantastic.

An eye-opening look back at America’s history with trust in the government and how we can begin to heal the fissures that have developed over recent years

I'm a huge fan of Pete Buttigieg, and I was not in any way disappointed in this slim, graceful, inspired volume. It's not just an essay on the role of trust in a democracy. It's based on research, extensively footnoted, including an excerpt of a Pew Report on trust across demographic groups. Really, really well done.

Wow, exactly what I needed to break through the current US election coverage. This book set out perfectly what I had so much trouble grappling with around the Trump administration. More importantly this book has given me hope that there is a generation of politicians coming who have the education and honesty, the ability to unite instead of divide a nation and restore a semblance of respect and trust in a government. And I don’t even live in the US. I can’t wait to see what Mayor Pete does next.

Mayor Pete! I appreciated his take on trust in the political climate we are in currently in the US, and felt his hope for the future through his words. His Audible reading is so personable and includes a bonus: the recording of the speech he gave in South Bend after leaving the 2020 presidential race.

The way that Pete Buttigieg was able to seamlessly intertwine and explain the difficulties facing American politics— from misinformation to the pandemic to the polarization of politics—is thoroughly enjoyable to read. The book makes all of the complicated aspects of history and politics seem straightforward and simple in ways that even if you know about them, it’s like looking at them with fresh eyes
