I wasn't expecting to like this book as much as I did. Such a weird and interesting concept, the whole thing is pretty unusual. It's full of awesome quotes and uncomfortable situations but Irving makes you fall in love with these quirky characters and wraps you up in their lives. It was a recommendation to me and I will be recommending it to others as well.

As usual I was riveted. John Irving is a masterful story teller. A Prayer for Owen Meany is still my favorite of his novels that I have read so far but I haven't read a John Irving novel yet that I didn't love. There are parts in this book that were disturbing but that is another trait of his novels. Situations that make you uncomfortable. I loved it.
Overlooking the incest and Susie ( I hate Susie), a mostly entertaining book.
I got no more than 10 minutes into this book and I knew I couldn't be bothered. The characters annoyed me to no end. I'm sorry. This is my last foray into Irving's oeuvre, the man just isn't for me.
Theses my favorite book of all time! Its not as famous perhaps as some of his newer books but for random events and sympathetic characters it can't be beat!!!
I did not like this book at all. It didn't start out strong, and it got worse from there. I didn't like the characters, the writing, and honestly - any book for me that has a lot of sex and incest in it - it is just not for me. This is my opinion, but I could not get into it. I liked a few of Irvings other books, but this one was not for me.
I liked this one too! More bears and prostitutes, and with a couple absolutely hilarious scenes involving both.
