Dune Messiah

adventurous challenging sad tense slow-paced

This book was definitely way slower like wayyyyy slower. It was 80% just politics and talk and conspiracy. The dune aspect was less in this and hardly any action, only in end.

I loved the vibes of the book which shows Paul falling into his own madness of prophecy, religion, will and politics. He is confused between his choices and life actions and is afraid of inevitable future.

It shows cost of prophecy, power, and messianic worship. The pacing is slower, but the psychological depth and tragic ending make it a powerful, thought provoking sequel. The ending made this 4* or else it would have been big fat 3

It was sad for paul though and i felt sad for him :( Tbh if paul dies I won’t be reading the series lol

The beginning of the book disappointed me as I was eager to see how Paul would go from winning on arraknis in book 1 to be the ruler of the empire as was predicted in book 1. However, when I accepted that this is what it was and I kept reading it became amazing.

It can be incredibly confusing at times as people talk in riddles, sometimes a lot of names are introduced/mentioned at the same time and there are a lot of prophecies involved that you do not know the extent of. This does sometimes, and especially in the beginning make it a bit of a tough read.

But even with this in mind I can not give this book a lower grade than 5 stars. This is of course my opinion and I can definitely see why other people would disagree but I just could not put it down and it really touched me.

In conclusion, an incredible book. Not as good as dune 1 but this will definitely go down on my list of my favorites and I will definitely read it again.

Thank you Frank Herbert for this amazing world and experience

Things started to become a little too meta for me tbh at the end but good overall

i first read this back in 2019, a lot has changed since then, and a lot of this i’ve forgotten. such a simple story, with lots of interesting philosophy and other background material packed in.

it captured me, and helped bring back a bit of my reader’s mind again after a bit of a struggle / break. ready for the film now, denis!
