I realized soon after beginning this book that it's not really the sort that I enjoy - it's a lot of short, blog-ish, encouragement to create, stay after it, don't give up, take risks, be true to yourself as you create, etc. Godin-esque in the vein of [b:The War of Art: Break Through the Blocks & Win Your Inner Creative Battles|1319|The War of Art Break Through the Blocks & Win Your Inner Creative Battles|Steven Pressfield|https://d2arxad8u2l0g7.cloudfront.net/books/1388176109s/1319.jpg|722104]. Fine, but not for me.

Towards the end of reading this book, I started listening to [b:Grit: Passion, Perseverance, and the Science of Success|25813921|Grit Passion, Perseverance, and the Science of Success|Angela Duckworth|https://d2arxad8u2l0g7.cloudfront.net/books/1458533580s/25813921.jpg|45670634], and then the purpose of this sort of book clicked for me: it's a grit-encouragement book. Learning about grit (via Duckworth's book) is the sort of grit encouragement that I need and feel motivated by. Jarvis's approach is more rah-rah, do what I'm doing that (apparently) helps many others.

Quick, feel-good and sometimes feel-deep-style writing. Nothing particularly new here, but no problem with that either. Just generally inoffensive and a bit bland. But not a waste of time either.
